O ΑΓΙΟΣ ΝΙΚΟΛΑΣ ΤΗΣ ΓΕΝΝΑΣ ΣΤΑ ΠΑΛΑΤΙΑ , ΣΤΟ ΝΗΣΙ ΤΟΥ ΜΑΡΜΑΡΑ

Πρόκειται για την μικρή Βυζαντινή εκκλησία του Αγίου Νικολάου της Γέννας, λίγο έξω από το χωριό Παλάτια (Salayar στα Τουρκικα) του νησιού του Μαρμαρά.Μετά την Άλωση και έχοντας καταφύγει στην Κορώνη ,η οικογένεια στην οποία έχουν τις ρίζες τους οι Γεννατά ,πήρε το επώνυμο Γεννατά για να τιμήσουν και να μην λησμονήσουν τις ρίζες τους.

It is the Byzantine church of St. Nicholas of Gennas (of Birth). It is located outside the village Salayar (Palatia in Greek) in Marmara Island ( Prokonisos in Greek). It is is the only church which still survives in Marmara. Abandoned. The Gennatas family, prior to the fall of Constantinople and the islands of the Sea of Marmara, to the Turks, in 1453, left the island and settled in Koroni, at the southwestern tip of Peloponnesus, Greece. It was part of the Venetian Republic. It is from the Church of St Nicholas of Gennas, that they took the name“Gennatas” to mark their roots
